Update On Diet

The boys diet is going better than expected. Arion broke yesterday. He just couldn't stomach the cottage cheese for lunch. I ended up giving him my Tomato soup. Otherwise there has been no cheating that I have seen. Lots of complaining, but no cheating. One more day and then we see how much they have lost.
News Flash

Brandon says my legs are "giggly" because I'm almost an old woman. NICE. Maybe I should be on that diet.

How Much Does He Want This

So now is the time to find out how much Arion really wants to go into the Army. The test went well. The only thing the recruiter said is that he needs to lose some weight. Now, anyone who knows Arion, knows that Arion loves to eat. And not just any food, but junk food. They gave him this 3 day diet that is supposed to help him drop 10 pounds. I got a good look at it. Very little food for someone that eats constantly. So now the question is how much does he really want to go into the Army. Enough to starve for 3 days. I told him I would buy everything on the menu. Jim has already said he would do it with him. I just can't see these two not cheating and sneaking other food. I'll let you know how it goes.

What's a Mother To Do

This morning at 7:45 am they came for him. Very scary. My heart is still pounding and it was only to take the test. You see over the last month Arion and I have been discussing his future. Things have not gone well. At school he did not do good enough to hold on to his scholarship and also lost his government loan. Jim and I offered to pay for community college. Arion was not liking it. There were other options, but the gist of it was he really couldn't go back to where he was last year. Arion decision is to join the Army. I tried to push for the Air Force or Navy, but the more I pushed, the more he dug in his heels. He has listened to some stuff. He is waiting till after the test to find out what types of careers they can offer him. There may still be one thing that will hang him up. It's the meds. Some recruiters say you have to be off for a certain amount of time. Arion has been off for some time, but not the required amount. Other recruiters say because of his age and the fact that he has had a year of college that it can be waved and isn't as important. We'll see. Meanwhile I am trying to remember that he's 20 and has a right to make decision about his life. I have to let go. I hate this.

Baby Jack Comes To Visit and Beats Up Arion

Last weekend Baby Jack came over for a visit. Of course he brought his Dad. We had a great time. He is getting so big. Of course the kids love having him over. At one point Jack was sitting on his blanket and Arion went to lay next to him. Jack started smacking Arion in the face. It was kind of funny and of course Arion just stayed there and took it. Yeah, he thought it was funny. The thing Arion forgot was little babies have little nails. At one point Jack started grabbing Arion's nose and yes, gave Arion a bloody nose. He got no sympathy from me. Teasing Arion about being "taken out" by a baby was kind of fun.

Boats In

The other day the boats I ordered for Brandon came in. Since then Jim has figures out how to put the first one together and Brandon has started painting it. They look kind of cool. Lots of ropes to tie (Jim had to do), but Brandon is really getting into it. He also has had fun looking that the catalog. He likes the looks of some of the bigger boats. Maybe when he gets older. Some of them are really expensive.

Normal Crazy

Just an average morning at the Druger household. I got up and started running. It was Lauren's first day at Summer School and Brandon was starting his second week. Everyone had to get up, get dressed and eat. Then it was the packing of the backpacks. Brandon wanted to bring stuff from the caves and then, of course, Lauren had to too. I finished all that and hit the shower. Thought I was in the home stretch when I sat down to read with Lauren before the bus when I got the call. The sister, Brandon's sandal broke and the bus was due in 20 minutes. Great, Lauren bus is due in 15 minutes. Two choices. Leave Lauren at the stop and run to the sitters or get Lauren on her bus and then run the shoes to Brandon's school; 30-40 minutes away. Well, since I was not dressed for work yet I left Lauren at the stop and ran for it. Got there before the bus, dropped the shoes, and ran for home. If the bus was late, I could still make it to see her off. As I figured, it was, I did. Just the normal crazy life of a mother living on the edge.

A Day At The Cave

Today I decided that we needed to do something new and educational. Yeah, my family gives me that look too. Anyway, we went to a cave not too far away called Indian Echo Caverns. The day went really well. We started with lunch at a little cafe at the entrance to the caves. Then we went in and got our tickets. It was the kids first time in a cave and they both seemed nervous about what they would see. Getting Brandon to understand that he couldn't touch the rocks was a little hard. Touching the rocks will kill the growing process that the rocks are in. Something about leaving oils on the rocks and inhibiting the water flow. The formations were beautiful. In the end, they both seemed to have fun and liked the stuff they saw. After the tour I bought both of them a bag of dirt to pan. It was one of the things that is really cool about these caves. Lauren wanted a gem bag and Brandon wanted a fossil bag. I was surprised about how many stone and fossils they found. After that we went back to the cafe and had some ice cream.

Minnows and Boats

On Sunday I decided that I would take the kids out and "Make a Memory". You know, do something that you hope that they look back on later in life and smile at the fun they had when they were young. I took the kids down to the park to try to catch minnows in the small creek that runs through the far end. They really had fun. Lauren got pretty good and catching the minnows and had all these other kids trying it. Brandon wanted to build a dam and then got the idea that we should have brought one of his derby boats. Brandon and I ended up going back on Monday night. We brought his little boat from the Raingutter Regatta, but it was missing the bottom weight and kept falling over. Brandon was somewhat disappointed until he switched to catching minnows and got his first.

This morning I got on-line and found a great site for little model boats. I purchased two. The one is really cute. It is called a sailing flea. It is much smaller than the usual boats. I also got him a 8" one. Hopefully they will work out good for a great summer project. Here are some pictures of our trip on Sunday.
