Big Boys Club
This weekend Jim decided that Brandon should try being in the "Big Boys Club". This means that Jim put Brandon to bed with no Pull Ups. I can't say I was really in favor of this idea. I'm the one that helps Brandon get dressed and I know that most mornings he's wet. But it's the weekend and worth a try. Jim had a long talk with him about him and Arion not wearing Pull Ups to bed and that's how "Big Boys" did it. The first night went good. Apparently he did get up in the middle of the night to go potty. In the morning he was dry and all was good. The next night was not so good. Brandon woke up in the morning soaked. Of course I was the one that had to strip the bed and wash everything. Later that night I was the one that had to do the bunk bed work out. If you don't have a bunk bed try imagining making a bed while stand on the bed stand and then getting down and then standing on a little latter and then back to the bed stand about 10 times. Highly recommended for those looking for physical actively. I then told Jim that if he wanted to continue, he could do the sheets and all. I then sent Brandon to bed in Pull Ups again and told him to try to keep them dry and then we could try again. In truth, I am really not to worried about it. I've known other kids that were still wetting the bed at age 7. I think we really just need to give it more time.

Anne,
I agree with you. You can't talk a kid into not wetting his bed at night. Most of the time it is a biological developmental issue that can not be forced.
However, if Jim really wants to try to speed up the bed time potty training he can make it so Brandon is more aware of his peeing, but that is about all one can do. So if Jim wants Brandon to sleep in underwear and is willing to clean the sheets, then that might help Brandon but he can not get mad at Brandon for wetting the bed because Brandon has no control over it. Jim could also get rubber pants to put over Brandon's underwear to reduce the amount the sheets get wet. But if neither of these methods help reduce the bed wetting, then Jim will just need to be patient.
Also Jim needs to know that many kids have bed wetting issues well into elementary school age and beyond. And children with cognitive issues such as Brandon are even more likely to have bed wetting issues than typical children. My son with autism is nearly eight years old and we think he is years away from not needing pull-ups and my wife and I are fine with that.
P.S. Keep up the great blogging. I especially liked your posts about the geographical games and the "Behavior Autopsy". I now use the behavior autopsy all the time and the geographical games was very inspiring.
Hey, nighttime incontenance is very, very common in ADD/ADHD kids and teens. Justin at 17 still has a problem every 6 months or so and Emory at 14 every 4-5 months. Don't ever tell them I told you though.
